I’m on the run from a bad family situation. Everyone said Dreamwood Isle is where I would find happiness at last, a balmy and promising beach town on the Texas coast. I’m tired of curling up on park benches. I hate stealing to survive. But it seems even here in paradise, I’m still struggling to find a place I belong. That changes the night I steal from a local beachside bar called the Easy Breezy. I don’t make it far before Cooper—the handsome, humble owner—catches me. I already know it’s the end. I’ll be taken to the cops, turned in, finished. Instead, he takes me back to his place. Lets me crash on his couch. Forgives me. How do I deserve his kindness? Can I even trust it? Working at the Easy Breezy, I know everyone on the island. My bar is where the locals come to fill their glasses and spill their hearts. I listen to their woes. I help lost lovebirds find their way to each other. But lately, I can’t help but feel like something’s missing from my life. I’m reaching a certain age. I still live alone. Can I really expect to fill the hole in my heart by helping everyone else fill theirs? It’s no wonder I decide to give this sweet-faced runaway a place to stay for the night. Every time he looks at me with his big, doleful eyes, my resolve to protect him grows. What is he running from? What won’t he tell me? One night turns into another. The longer he stays, the more he seems to need me. I may not know his story yet, but I recognize the pain in his sweet eyes. Is our paradise about to fall apart, or become something more?
